Since this decade is coming to an end, let’s go down memory lane and go through all of the best songs that put you in your feels, made you dance, smile, and just be happy. Throwback songs can bring back memories and can make you feel like you’re back in 2010. Here is a list of all the number one songs from 2010 all the way to the end of 2019. Take out your phone and get your playlist started.

2010 “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha

Go back to the year 2010 and picture yourself with headphones in, phone in your hand, and you’re about to pick a song. Chances are the song you picked was “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha. According to Billboard Hot 100, Ke$ha’s very popular hit ended 2010 as  the number one song of the year. It had the most uploads from iTunes and was the most streamed on Spotify. “Tik Tok” is for sure still a song that I still listen to today and it is crazy to think it came out 9 years ago,” said NAHS student Emily Nardelli. 

2011– “Rolling In The Deep” by Adele

In 2011 the most popular song of the year was “Rolling In The Deep” by Adele, which is still a very popular song now. In an interview with the Independent in the UK, she said wrote the song about a very sad heartbreak that she had recently went through with her first love. “ I really enjoyed listening to this song after my boyfriend and I broke up,” said NAHS graduate Katie Daby .A lot of people related to the song because mostly everyone goes through a heartbreak once in their life.

 2012 “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye

In 2012, the top song of the year was “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye. It became known as his one hit wonder and he even won a grammy for it according to The New Yorker. He hasn’t come out with anything since then and it has people wondering where he has been. 

2013– “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

It’s no surprise that “Thrift Shop” was named the number one song of 2013. The song became a very catchy tune that was being played all over. ” I would never change the radio station when this song came on, “said NAHS student Mariah Daniels.It was a constant repeat on the radio and if we are being honest, maybe it was played too much. 

2014– “Happy” by Pharrell Williams

In 2014 there was probably not one person that did not know the lyrics to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. The song was very popular and was used in multiple movies as well. The song was constantly performed at award shows and was for sure a fan favorite. It was known as the most upbeat song of the year according to People Magazine.

2015-Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars

According to npr.org, Mark Ronson wrote the song “Uptown Funk” but couldn’t have picked a better artists to sing the song than Bruno Mars. The song quickly rose to the top and stayed there for a very long time making it the best song of 2015 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 2015. “ I still listen to this song all the time and it brings back so many memories,” said Nahs senior Abby Gallagher. 

2016-Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber

After years of being far away from music, Justin Bieber hit us with his Purpose Album which did really great. The most popular song of the album was “Love Yourself”, which rose to number one very fast and was also the number one hit on Itunes. Fans are hoping for a new album soon, saying as though that was the last one he released according to Enews. 

2017– “Shape Of You” by Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of you” was the most popular song of 2017 and ever since then, he has for sure been one of the biggest artists in the world. According to Forbes, Shape of you was ranked number 1 for 14 weeks straight, which is a pretty good reasoning for it being the number one song of 2017.

2018-God’s Plan” by Drake 

“God’s Plan” was ranked at number 1 for 26 weeks straight and was streamed 101.7 million times in just February 2018. The song became a huge hit very fast and is still played very often on the radio today. “ I have never gotten sick of hearing this song over and over again so you can tell it is actually a good song,” said NAHS Student Ashley Cangiano. 

2019– “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish 

With 2019 coming to an end the number one song of the year was “Bad Guy”. Billie was a breakout artist of this year and has proved herself without a doubt. Fans hope she continues to make new music and rise up on the charts for years to come.

Grab your phone start up a playlist and add these hot songs of the decade to it. Everytime you listen you will be able to go down memory lane and hear the songs that you grew up with. Hopefully this next decade tops these very memorable songs. Happy Listening!
