Spooky season is here, and that means it’s time to break out the horror movies. Get together with your friends, girlfriend, boyfriend or family and enjoy the thrill. There have been so many horror movies that have been released over the years, but here are some of the best and scariest out there.

  1. Halloween (1978)

On Halloween in 1963, Michael Myers kills his own sister, gets arrested and put in a mental asylum. About 15 years later, he escapes on the anniversary of his sisters’ murder. He then becomes obsessed with three high school girls, follows each girl and kills two of them while his psychiatrist leads a sheriff around town in search of him. Finally, he is just left with Laurie, who’s terrified but knows enough to fight back.

2. IT (2017)

It’s 1988 in Derry, Maine, Little Georgie goes outside in the rain to sail the toy boat that his older brother had made for him. The boat ends up going down the drain. Looking into the sewer, Georgie meets a scary clown named Pennywise. Georgie then disappears. The next summer, as school gets out, Georgie’s older brother Bill and the other kids from town start to experience scary events and notice that other kids in town have been disappearing. Thanks to Ben (Bills’ friend), the teens find out that evil things seem to happen every 27 years and that all of it leads back to a well in the basement of a creepy old house. Bill promises to stop whatever it is that killed his brother.

North Attleboro senior Sarah Marrow said, “I didn’t think It was scary at all.  The way people hyped it up I thought it was going to be good, but it was overrated.”

3. INSIDIOUS

The Lambert family moves into their new house, only to find out that creepy things have been happening. Books and boxes randomly move around, and they hear weird noises coming from the attic. Son Dalton falls into an unknown coma. Mom Renai starts seeing things in the house. Dad Josh agrees that they will move out of the haunted house, but the mysterious events continue. Mom Rebai hires a medium to help. The medium says that the house wasn’t haunted, it was Dalton. Now someone must try to save Dalton.

North Attleboro senior Ethan Chu said, “I thought the movie was good even though I don’t like horror movies.”

4. Get Out

Chris, a black photographer, has been dating a white girl named Rose for five months and they are now getting ready to go and meet her parents. Rose’s father, Dean, and hypnotist mom, Missy, try to make Chris feel welcome. But when Missy forcefully hypnotizes Chris to quit smoking, Chris starts feeling strange things happen. The family’s black servants start acting very odd, and the arrival of an unexpected party full of privileged white people results in some creepy encounters. Is everything happening in Chris’ head, or is he in danger?

5. The Conjuring

In the early 1970s, the Perron family, and their five daughters move into a new home in Rhode Island. Not long after they start to experience strange noises and smells, slamming doors, and figures hidden in dark corners of the house. The Perrons meet paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren and ask them for help. The Warrens believe a demon is causing the disturbance. Carolyn becomes possessed by the demon and must get confirmation from the church for an exorcism. Unfortunately, Lorraine’s clairvoyant abilities have taken a toll on her strength, and Ed is concerned that she might not survive the exorcism.

North Attleboro senior William Yeomans says, “The Conjuring is one of the scariest movies I have seen yet. It actually gave me nightmares for about a week.”
