Air pollution

Air pollution is a significant issue that the human race faces.

If we keep destroying and taking advantage of this planet like we are now, then Earth will no longer be sustainable in future generations.

According to Environmental Pollution Centers, Air pollution is the presence of toxic chemicals or compounds in the air. This is caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

People have already been getting sick due to the contamination in the air. A big factor of air pollution is cars. Cars produce a significant amount of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides and other pollutions. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, “Transportation contributed more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted into our air.”

Earth Eclipse states some effects of air pollution are

that its Hazardous to Human Health. Air pollution can cause lung disease and other respiratory problems. Many developing countries and also some developed countries that suffer from a significant amount of air pollution are more likely to experience premature deaths. A World Health Organization report suggest that air pollution causes about two million premature deaths annually. This is caused due to low air quality that can alter the baby’s lung development. According to the British Lung Foundation, “One study has shown that if a baby is exposed to air pollution in the womb it can alter their lung development.”

In addition, the pollution present in the atmosphere chemically reacts with water molecules and oxygen, forming acidic compounds which precipitates as acid rain.  Acid rain causes damage to vegetation and buildings, as well as impacting lakes, streams, wetlands, and other aquatic environments by making them acidic.

According to the Solar Impulse Foundation, Some solutions to air pollution are:

Electric and hybrid vehicles and public transportation systems: Converting to electric powered vehicles will reduce emissions and will also save you money as well.

Solar power: solar energy creates renewable power provided by the sun which benefits the environment because most of the electricity generated in the U.S. alone comes from fossil fuels like coal and natural gas.

Wind Power: wind power is a clean fuel source that doesn’t pollute the air since wind turbines don’t rely on the combustion of fossil
fuels like power plants.

In conclusion since we as people aren’t making any progress to better the environment, policies should be set before it’s too late.
