The main ice rink in the New England Sports Village is scheduled to open on October 14th, 2016. The Premiere Rink, as it will be called, is on track to be ready for the 2016-2017 high school hockey season. It will be quickly followed by two other rinks that will total $17 million in construction, according to The Sun Chronicle.
The three rinks will be apart of a $53 million sports village that is laid out over 100 acres off Commerce Way in Attleboro. However, the rink won’t be the only attraction there. A track, frozen yogurt store, and full service restaurant will also be included. The plaza could also expand into building a turf field and even a nearby hotel.
The new rink will also be the new home rink of three local high school teams: Bishop Feehan, North Attleboro and Attleboro.
North Attleboro Rocketeers boys varsity ice hockey team captain Zach McGowan was elated when he heard the news of the new complex. “I’m really excited about it,” said McGowan. “It will be great having a new rink that is closer to us for home games. Also, not having to bus to all practices and not having 5 AM’s, the new rink should be really helpful to the program as a whole.”
The Rocketeers previously played out of The Foxboro Sports Center, and had to bus to practice about three times a week. They even had to practice at 5 AM before school on Fridays.
The students of North Attleboro are also excited to watch their team play at the new complex. “I think it would be really cool.” said Jack Dakin, “Having a rink closer to us will be much more convenient.”
