North Attleboro Red Rocketeers football had an amazing run this season. Here’s a review of their past four weeks of play, starting with their game against the Taunton Tigers on October 16th.
The Rocketeers picked up an historic win on October 16th, defeating the Taunton Tigers, 44-20, to make them the Hockomock champions. This is the first time in 18 years that the Rocketeers clinched the Hockomock at their home field, Community. Senior Brodey Barr said that this win was “one of the biggest wins” of his High School career.
Senior Captain Nick Morrison put on a show for the fans of North Attleboro. Having just four carries for 120 yards and three rushing touchdowns, he also added a 55 yard fumble return for a touchdown on defense.
Morrison said, “I worked my hardest and played my best. That is all I could have done and I’m glad to say that we are Hockomock champs.”
North also played fantastic on defense, with senior Kyle Gaumond making two interceptions, and sophomore Zach DeMattio making one.
On October 23rd, North then went on to beat Mansfield in a 14-13 nailbiter. ESPNBoston named North’s own Bobby Mylod as the Player of the Game for being “everywhere on both sides of the ball.” This win solidified North’s undefeated record in the regular season, and they looked towards the playoffs.
On October 30th, North went on and destroyed the Bishop Feehan Shamrocks 35-7, moving them on to the second round of the MIAA Division 3 Southwest tournament. “That was a big win against Feehan, but now we have a real good team coming up on our schedule,” said Defensive end Davon Andrade.
In the second round of the tournament on November 6th, North faced off against the Duxbury Dragons at Community Field. It was a great game, but unfortunately North couldn’t pull out the W. Connor Flynn booted a field goal early in the game to put North up 3-0, but Duxbury then got in the lead with a TD, making the score 7-3.
North got back in the lead to make the score 10-7 after a 6-yard touchdown run by Captain Nick Morrison. This was the final score for the Red Rocketeers as Duxbury heated up to defeat the Red Rocketeers, 21-10.
Senior Leo Thibeault said, “It sucks having to lose and get eliminated, but all that matters is that we played hard and did our best.”
Although North is eliminated from the playoffs, they still will have a few more games to play leading up to the Thanksgiving game against Attleboro on November 26th.
